How To Take A Risk And Improve Your Life

MoStory   Posted By  Dr. MO   Once there was a wealthy man who received a gift of two magnificent falcons. They were peregrine falcons, the most beautiful birds he had ever seen. He was a collector of hunting birds and gave these precious birds to his head trainer.

Months passed and one day the trainer informed the man that one of the falcons was flying majestically, soaring high in the sky, while the other bird had not moved from its branch since the day it had arrived.

The wealthy man asked his trainer to  bring in consultants to resolve this problem, but no one was able to get the bird to fly. The man was frustrated and decided to give the task of finding a way to have that bird fly to his executive assistant. This did not work either, and days later he saw that the bird had still not moved from its perch.

Having tried everything else, the wealthy man thought to himself, “Perhaps I need someone more skilled with problem solving in general”. So, he brought in an employee he had hired the year before who had successfully solved a problem in one of his factories, and described the situation to him.

About one week later, the wealthy man was thrilled to see the falcon soaring high above his country home. He asked his secretary to arrange for the problem solver to come to his office again. When he arrived, the man asked, “What did you do? How did you get the falcon fly?”

With a shy grin the problem solver said, ” It was actually very easy, sir. I simply cut the branch where the bird was sitting.”

We are all capable of flying— to soar and realize our incredible potential as human beings. However, instead of doing that, too often we sit on our ‘branches’, clinging to the things that are familiar to us, afraid that we won’t be able to do something new. The possibilities are endless, but for most of us, they remain undiscovered. We conform to the familiar, the comfortable, the easy. So much too often, our lives are mediocre…. instead of exciting, thrilling and fulfilling.

So let’s learn to cut the branch of fear we cling to and free ourselves for the glory of our own flight.
