6 Ways To Overcoming PROcrastination (Part One)

Quotes-100

MoHow   Posted By   Dr. MO  For many of us the main obstacle to accomplishing what needs to be done is overcoming our habit of PROcrastinating. It’s a challenge for me, and every day I deal with with this powerful debilitating habit. I’m doing better and better and  thought you might be interested in some of the strategies I use to help me get things done. here are the first three, I’ll three more in tomorrow’s post…

1. Become aware. The problem usually is that we don’t think about PROcrastination. We don’t understand it or even realize it’s there most of the time. We think, “Oh, I better do my taxes … or get going with my writing project”, get distracted by something on the internet, or we do something we enjoy like gardening, or we’re just going to make one more call to a friend, or any of a limitless amount of distractions, and don’t do our work.

Combat this by realizing that you are facing PROcrastination. Once you become aware of it, you can deal with it more successfully. It can be difficult to become more aware, but the key is to focus on it . Print out the words “I am Overcoming PROcrastination” and put them somewhere visible. That will help remind you to be aware of procrastination. Every time you do something that isn’t the most important thing you could be doing right now, be aware of what you’re doing.

2. Change your point of view about PROcrastination. This is the main technique that I use: dealing with PROcrastination by thinking about it as AMATEURcrastination. Professionals get paid to do what they do. And so if you have been PROcrastinating and not getting paid. you really have been AMATEURcrastinating. Doing it for free, because you love it so much

Its time to change all that, you really haven’t loved the “crastination”, have you? It’s time to do what you have been putting off and get paid.

3. Be very clear, and focus. Before you start the day, be very clear about what you want to accomplish. You won’t be able to finish 10 major projects, but maybe you can finish one important project, or at least move it along to a certain point. Set three Most Important Tasks you want to accomplish today. Once you have those things defined, you’ve got to focus on them to the exclusion of all else (at least, during your prime work time). Do them first. Focus, finish, then move on to the smaller tasks you need to complete today. If you find yourself being lured to do something that’s not on that short list of three things, bring yourself back and focus.
